I’m rereading Survival of the Prettiest. The first time I read it was on my brother’s couch about eight years ago when I was more fat and more ugly.
Many intellectuals would have us believe that beauty is inconsequential. Since it explains nothing, solves nothing, and teaches us nothing, it should not have a place in intellectual discourse. And we are supposed to breath a collective sigh of relief. After all, the concept of beauty has become an embarrassment.
But there is something wrong with this picture. Outside the realm of ideas, beauty rules. Nobody has stopped looking at it, and no one has stopped enjoying the sight. Turning a cold eye to beauty is as easy as quelling physical desire or responding with indifference to a baby’s cry. We can say that beauty is dead, but all that does is widen the chasm between the real world and our understanding of it. (Nancy Etcoff)

It’s almost time for truth.
I’m very close to dying my hair blond. Again. My motivation is ninety-nine percent symbolic and one percent boredom. I shouldn’t use the word boredom because I’m never bored, I just itch for silly change from time to time.

I REALLY LOVE MAKING THINGS!
I’m making a really beautiful and massive translucent couch. Inside I’m going to create a night sky of twinkling stars by suspending tiny baby lights. I think it will be really sexy lighting for after dinner when everyone retires to the living room for wine and stories. And when they spill their whine it’ll just drip off. And it’s deflatable.
I just made a prototype out of garbage bags.
I slept one hour last night. This is not abnormal.
